German police on Wednesday arrested two suspected “IS” members accused of enslaving and abusing two younger Yazidi ladies between 2015 and 2017 in Iraq and Syria.
The suspects, an Iraqi couple, a person and a girl, have been arrested within the metropolis of Regensburg, and the district of Roth, within the southern state of Bavaria.
Prosecutors stated in a press release the younger ladies have been bodily abused, repeatedly raped and banned from working towards their faith.
The couple allegedly stored a five-year-old Yazidi woman as a slave beginning in 2015 and a 12-year-old from October 2017.
“Moreover, the suspects exploited the slaves economically by constantly coercing them into family work and childcare. They prohibited the ladies from practising their very own faith; as an alternative, they needed to observe the suspects’ directions relating to Islamic prayers and perception,” the assertion learn.
The couple handed the ladies over to different IS members earlier than leaving Syria in November 2017, prosecutors stated in a press release.
“All of this served the group’s goal to destroy the Yazidi faith,” their assertion stated.
Germany acknowledges Yazidi ‘genocide’
The arrest of the married couple follows a decision by the German parliament final 12 months that acknowledges crimes dedicated by IS towards Iraq’s Yazidi neighborhood as genocide.
The Yazidis, a Kurdish-speaking minority, have been persecuted by IS after the Islamist militant group overran giant swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq starting in 2014.
In 2021, Germany convicted a former IS member of genocide, marking the first time the acts of IS towards the Yazidi neighborhood in northern Iraq have been held to account.
